Welcome to the Kerrilyn Merino & Poll Merino Stud.
Kerrilyn Merino & Poll Merino Stud is situated in Dunluce in North Central Victoria.  It is 15 km from Dunolly, 25 Kilometres from Maryborough and 31 kms from Avoca. It is central to both Bendigo and Ballarat.
Our aim is to breed big framed, fertile sheep with as much quality wool as possible. We are predominately a Medium wool Stud with microns ranging between 16.5 to 20.

We are doing this by using top A.I. sires and testing and ranking all rams for wool and body traits. We also benchmark our quality and beliefs by showing at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, Hamilton Sheep Vention, Hay Sheep Show, The Ballarat Victorian Sheep Show, Natte Yallock Wool Show, the Loddon Valley Field Day and Marnoo Victorian State Merino Field Day.

Kerrilyn is proud to offer 40 rams for sale at our on-property sale this year. They present very well considering when they were born last year in a horrible year for sheep farming. The rams in the sale have all their current wool and muscle scan results done by independent testers. This means that what you see is what you get.
We DNA tested our sires, 2024 drop stud ewes and our 2025 drop rams mainly to make it easier to pedigree our lambs in the future as I intend to DNA the classed in stud ewes each year. With the DNA tests you get a flock profile which compares your flock to the MERINOSELECT database. It should not surprise as fleece weight is a high priority at Kerrilyn that our yearling fleece weight came back in the top 5 to 10 % of flocks. Also since we established our stud we have identified dry ewes. Our DNA weaning rate recorded a credible top 30% of flocks. Combine this with the top 10% in the merino lamb index (joining to terminals) and a top 25% in the sustainable merino index it backs up our breeding objectives. The DNA figures supplied are in our flock profile and not ASBVs. I still would take more notice of the real wool and meat figures supplied and use the DNA as a guide in your selections.
It was great to get our clip and Barry and Morris Forbes clip nominated for the Elders clip of the Month last year.
Winning the Victorian champion fleece at the Australian Sheep and Wool show would be our show highlight for the year. A good match to our Victorian Champion Ewe
a few years ago.

Victorian Schools Merino Wether Challenge

Kerrilyn is again proud to supply the wether lambs for the 3rd Victorian school sheep competition. 16 schools from all parts of Victoria picked up 6 shorn 2025 drop wether lambs in March on our farm. On the 25th of August 2026 at the Clunes Showgrounds the sheep will be judged on both wool and meat traits as well as presentations by the schools. Victoria is the last state in Australia to have sheep to conduct a school competition. I have seen how big the competition is in SA and NSW and it is a great way to not only introduce teenagers to agriculture but also give them an opportunity to become interested and aware of the job opportunities that they may not have thought of previously.
This competition was set up with the help of AWI and the Australian Merino Sheep Breeders Association. Also Alan Harris, the past President of the Victorian Stud Merino Sheep Breeders, was the driving force to get it up and running.
It would be great to get a few people get to Clunes on the 25th August 2026 to support not only the schools but also show the students that we are as interested in our industry as they are.
