Welcome to the Kerrilyn Merino & Poll Merino Stud.
Kerrilyn Merino & Poll Merino Stud is situated in Dunluce in North Central Victoria.  It is 15 km from Dunolly, 25 Kilometres from Maryborough and 31 kms from Avoca. It is central to both Bendigo and Ballarat.
Our aim is to breed big framed, fertile sheep with as much quality wool as possible. We are predominately a Medium wool Stud with microns ranging between 16.5 to 20.

We are doing this by using top A.I. sires and testing and ranking all rams for wool and body traits. We also benchmark our quality and beliefs by showing at the Australian Sheep & Wool Show, Hamilton Sheep Vention, Hay Sheep Show, The Ballarat Victorian Sheep Show, Natte Yallock Wool Show, the Loddon Valley Field Day and Marnoo Victorian State Merino Field Day.

2025 Update
It’s great when your sheep breeding program works out. Last year’s Loddon Valley Field Day Book featured our Grand Champion medium ewe following in their grand dam’s footsteps, who was the Grand Champion Strong Wool ewe at Bendigo in 2018. Both ewes were Reserve Champions as two tooths and then went on to be Grand Champions the next show season.

We have been pedigreeing our stud sheep for 20 plus years and have used a number of rams, either through A.I. or rams purchased, who are Australian Champion Rams or closely related, both Poll and Horned. It’s no surprise these genetics appear in our best progeny (both measured and visual traits), as these sires must be large, structurally correct sheep with quality wool to be given these awards.
Both our top 2023 show ewes now have the next generation up and going so looking forward to seeing their development in 2025 and 2026.

On Property Sale –
Friday 5th September, 2025

Kerrilyn is pleased to offer 42 rams for sale at our on property sale. It has been a hard year to grow young sheep in Dunluce this past season but we think our young rams present well and worth an inspection for sheep breeders who like producing quality wool on large frames. The rams weigh a bit more than previous years with a few rams with a 40 EMD. Still not very common in merinos. Kerrilyn made the final of the All-Purpose class at Bendigo this year with our 111 kg 42 EMD 8 fat 19.6 micron ram. This ram was the Champion Medium Wool Merino Ram at Sheepvention early August, 2025.
We have been recording the pedigrees of our studs now for over 20 years and tagging the twins. The twin ewes are more fertile and those people chasing more fertile sheep I recommend having a look at our pedigrees on display on our sale day and see how many twins are in the rams family tree.
Even though we have been pedigree recording, fleece weighing, fat and muscle measuring, wool testing and body weighing -supplying real figures for anybody interested, we have purchased a Breed Elite setup to provide ASBVs in the future.
The trouble is ASBVs move the goal posts pretty often. For example the last few years we were told to look at the DP index and it has now been scrapped.
Hopefully we will see you on sale day or before if you would like an obligation free inspection. We hope we get some substantial Spring rainfall.

Victorian Schools Merino Wether Challenge

Kerrilyn is again proud to supply the wether lambs for the 2nd Victorian school sheep competition. 14 schools from all parts of Victoria picked up 6 shorn 2024 drop wether lambs on the 3rd of March on our farm. On the 27th of August at the Clunes Showgrounds the sheep will be judged on both wool and meat traits as well as presentations by the schools. Victoria is the last state in Australia to have sheep to conduct a school competition. I have seen how big the competition is in SA and NSW and it is a great way to not only introduce teenagers to agriculture but also give them an opportunity to become interested and aware of the job opportunities that they may not have thought of previously.
This competition was set up with the help of AWI and the Australian Merino Sheep Breeders Association. Also Alan Harris, the past President of the Victorian Stud Merino Sheep Breeders, was the driving force to get it up and running.
It would be great to get a few people get to Clunes on the 27th August 2025 to support not only the schools but also show the students that we are as interested in our industry as they are.
